Simplicity in Leadership and Management

Keeping it Simple

Workplace flexibility and well being are hot topics so why not take a ‘simple step’ along this path.

Google have done a lot of research on this topic. One of the things they came up with is, in addition to the ‘big things’ it is important to find some very ‘simple ways’ to foster improved work /life flexibility and  well-being in their teams. They call this approach .. ‘One Simple Thing’.

It aims to encourage managers to ask their team members “What is one simple thing you can do that will improve your own well-being and work-life flexibility?” According to Google the suggested action or goal should not be work-related and must be achievable. They also encourage individuals to share their answer with others — team members, friends, family — who can keep you accountable. Simple things are just that .. for example ..

  • Not checking emails on weekends.
  • Working out once a week during lunch time
  • Leaving work on time to spend more time with the family
  • Committing to a one week holiday in the next twelve weeks and not looking at emails while away :)

This is a very ‘simple’ suggestion but I think it is a good one. Enjoy!
